Hey All,

Sorry I've been away for quite a few months but wanted to get back and get another Weight Loss Challenge going. I've had 4 surgeries last year so I need you as much as you need me. We'll weight in on Fridays and track our weight so we can get the New Year off to more losing and less gaining.

The last surgery for me was on 12-30 to have a Spinal Fusion done. My back feels so much better but I've been sleeping and doing nothing because of the pain I've had for months now. No excuses but I've gained weight. I still do NOT eat sugar but I guess my downfall would have to be Baked Lays and Pretzels adding so many carbs with no exercise to balance it out. I had a 6 month visit today with my PCP and I weighed 196.4lbs which is awful considering that I was down to 172 just last year. So it's time to kick myself in the butt and motivate myself as well as others who have been wanting me to start another challenge.

The rules are No rules other then everyone is on their honor. We weight on Fridays and if you wish to share your weight that's fine with me. I plan to because it keeps me honest when I do. I also plan to start using my fitbit again to track my daily steps and start walking more. I know my recovery is a slow process and I'm still doing PT but I plan to get myself moving more and more.

Are you ready and up for the challenge??? Please join us and let's all be losers in weight where it counts.

    Brian,
I'm a "the glass is half full" kinda person so I can see the good in most things. Go with the positive and look how far you've come. You know yourself it's so easy to put it on but taking it off is a huge challenge.
Be proud of what you've done. I am. :)

    Happy Sunday All,
I'm sorry I haven't been around much but still having issues with this incisional hernia repair. I've jumped in a few times to post replies to people but not really spent alot of time here. Hopefully as I feel better that will change.
I weighed myself yesterday and I weighed 198.4 which is up from where I started but I'm not upset. After the surgery I weighed myself and the scale showed 207.9. My eyes were as big as saucers but I knew it was water weight form the surgery and I needed to give it time to work out of my system. I kept drinking my water (64ounces daily) and upped my protein shakes to 3-4 daily. I really wasn't doing much of anything else and walking causes me great pain so I pretty much was sitting around doing nothing. I still have horrible pain on my left side which feels like a stabbing pain when I bend or twist to do anything so I'm pretty much babying it. Finally I've been able to get around alot better and have starting walking more. As the pain gets less I will begin to do more exercise. The surgeon said I was approved to start walking and said go for it with riding the recumbent bike that Ray now needs to buy me. :) We had an schwin airdyne but the arms would move as you rode and someone like me with vertigo issues can't really use the arm movement or watch the arms move without getting dizzy. So I gave it away to a woman on freecycle who I knew would use it. Now it's time to get the type of bike I can actually use and enjoy riding. I used to ride my bike 5 miles daily so I get alot of use out of it and enjoyed it so much. Now I gotta drag Ray to the store to buy and put together this thing. Wish me luck!! lol
    Have a great week all!

    Hi Sally,
Glad to hear from you, happy to hear your doing better. Just don’t overdo it, if you hurt when you do something, don’t do it!! I tried the recumbent bike, it the gym. It worked well, but I had a problem with my butt falling asleep, you know how your foot or arm does, kind like that. So you might what to try one out for a while first, if you can.
Nice to see you back on here. Just take it easy.

    Hi Brian,
I have used one at the Y and love it. It's lower to the ground then my airdyne was plus the arms don't move so it's a win win for me. I would ride it for 30 minutes at the gym a few times a week and I didn't get numb anything. It really worked me out and I would turn up the level each week which gave it more resistance for me.
I already did too much today and will pay for it. I got the bright idea to widen our flower garden so I started. It took me about 5 hours and by the time I was done I hurt so bad but it's done expect putting down the mulch. I know I shouldn't do things like this but I see something I want done and I do it. After 2 hours I went to ask Ray for help and he came out. It wasn't what he wanted to do today but it's done and he said he'd spread the mulch tomorrow. Our neighbor (body builder) offered to help me on Monday so I may take him up on the offer and get the mulch spread and finish the widening we didn't do in front of our bedroom windows. The good thing is I have a stool that I sit on to do 90% of the work so it's not alot of bending which really hurts. The last time we worked on this flower bed other then putting down mulch and weeding yearly was probably 8 years ago.
I enjoy doing things and my OCD jumps in and pushes me to complete it. I know I shouldn't but it does make me feel so much better once it's done.
    Headheaded woman, that's me. :)

My exercise for last week was cleaning out my garage. By weekend it was done after dragging everything out, sweeping, hosing down and then dragging it all back in. Oh my goodness, what a workout! Glad THAT is done!

    Jeannie,

Ray's worst line from me "honey, I was thinking about…". I swear he wants to run and hide from me when I get these bright ideas but he's pretty good about helping me. He just doesn't like when I spring these ideas on him, he prefers that I give him notice. I wonder if it's to leave town? lol

    Hi Tracy,

Long time, no chat. I just ordered it online for delivery. Once I saw it weighs almost 100 lbs I thought there is no way that Ray could manage that thing into the condo so I opt'd to have it shipped for $15. It was worth that so he didn't hurt himself and there was no way I could help him get it into the car or condo. He agreed with me 100% so it's ordered and should be here on Friday. Since we have to put it together I'd rather have him willing to do that and not exhausted from getting it into the condo. :)
I'll let you know how it goes once we get it and I can try it out.

    Brian,
WTG! I never realized how much energy I didn't have when I weighed more weight. I swear your body and mind adjust so fast to the changes and reward you with the energy. Maybe it was in my mind but I felt the difference as I loose. Hopefully with the medication changes that will also show on the scale. Just keep working at it but don't stress over the number. Slow and steady wins the race. You didn't gain it overnight so it's not going to come off overnight either.
    Have a great week!

Went to Doctor Today and came back pretty happy says I am doing fine. We pulled records showed that I was 168 ;as of today I am 160 by their scale, I will take it, and this will make me work even harder, I was soooo down on this weight but now I feel like all my work is paying of. Will weigh in this Friday. C ya and congrats all that are still trying and hanging in here.

    Sallyt731 April 15, 2012 at 5:44 am

    June,
WTG! I know you're struggling with your weight but it seems to be heading in the right direction. Keep up the good work. What did you change to achieve this loss? If I've learned anything each scale weighs you differently so don't stress about the difference. I've had doctors who take off lbs for your clothes (usually 5lbs) others who have scales that weigh you and you weigh less then at home. I went to two doctors in one day and the difference was 7lbs less from the 1st to the 2nd doctor. Ray laughed and said it must have been the walk over, wow you're good Sally. lol I try to wear about the same thing when I go each time so I know that it's a true amount plus I weigh myself at home in those clothes before I go to get a reading of what I show then adjust accordingly. Geez, can you see my OCD coming out? :)
Keep up the great work, June. I'm so proud of you.

Hi Sally so good to hear from you and know that you are okay. I do not know what I am doing, I do know that I have much more energy and I move around a lot I am still walking, the Doctor today,Kidney Specialist, asked me what I was doing, he gave me an A plus for everything he said my entire numbers have changed. I truly truly believe it was my medication Actos, I had taken it for ten years, at the time that and glipizide were the only meds that could stabilize my diabetes. I was told there would be a weight gain and by golly there was :) I just needed to see a little progress because I work hard with my excersize program and diet, now I see light and I am soooooooooo very very happy even the nurses were happy for me as well as the Doctor, also I do not need Iron Infusion right now yay. Thanks Sally for listening and standing by me on this long journey to get healthy and thank you also Ray. Blessings to both of you. See you on Friday weigh in.

    June,

You sound more positive too about things. Meds can certainly help us but sometimes the side effects are horrible. You're doing what you need to do to hit your goal so keep up the good work. I look forward to hearing your numbers on Friday. We have a great group of members that are apart of this challenge that motivate me too. I appreciate everyone of them and their input and encouragement.

I'm down 40 pounds and have 20-25 to go. It always seems like the last stretch is the hardest. It's hard to fit exercise into a busy work schedule. We have fitness balls at work, so I have the goal of using it for half of the day. So far so good. I can do leg lifts under my desk and roll to do half sit ups. I had a slight back injury a few weeks ago and it actually seems to be strengthening my back muscles.

    Hi,

I just wanted to update you on how the surgery went and how I'm doing. Dr.
Eyman did my sugery on Wednesday and was able to do it lap but ended up
putting 10 (yes, 10) ports into me. I was a little surprised at how many he used
and thought what's the limit before you decide to do it open. Maybe 11. :)

Ray said I was in surgery for 2 hours but was having issues in recovery with
pain and nausea so they kept trying to give me something to help but nothing
was working so I was in there till 6pm and the surgery was scheduled for 11 but
didn't end up being taken till 12:15.

Ray was going crazy trying to figure out what was happening but this hospital
doesn't let anyone in recovery so he just waited and waited and waited. By the
time I saw him he was pissed and upset that something was happening but I
    told him "I hurt".

The couldn't seem to control the pain and I seemed to be a huge cry baby
which isn't usually like me. I thought I would be going home on Thursday but by
the time the surgeon came up at 5pm he saw how upset I was and was pushing
and trying to see what was going on. He ordered a binder for me which I asked
for but the nurse couldn't give me one till he ordered it then started giving me
Tramadol along with the Dilaton which I was using the pump but it never relieved
the pain. He said until this is going better for me he can't send me home. Once
she gave me the tramadol and put the binder on me it started to ease up on
the pain a little. It took most of the night and the next morning to get it to a
    level I could stand.

He said in incisional hernia was quite large. It was located under my breasts
in the center so really high up and when I would push out it felt like the size
of a grapefruit. This surgery really kicked my butt. Maybe I didn't really
recover well enough from the December surgery. I have no idea since I've never
been this bad and in pain for that long of a period of time. I think I broke
down about 4x's and kept saying I was sorry to Ray. He felt so bad and helpless
since there was nothing he could do to help me.

I'm just happy to be home and plan to sleep in our recliner tonight because
the thought of getting up out of bed with being able to raise the bed isn't
happening. Ray plans to sleep on the couch so he's near me in case I have an
issue which makes me feel secure.

Hopefully in a day or two I'll be back to feeling more like my old self then
this crying woman at the drop of a hat.

Sorry to ramble but wanted to get it all out before I go lie down in the
    recliner.

    **HUGS**
